Flystuff

Flustuff, a Genesee Scientific brand focused on Drosophila, is used primarily for scientific research and educational purposes. Drosophila melanogaster, commonly known as the fruit fly, is a model organism in genetics and developmental biology studies due to its short life cycle, large number of offspring, and well-mapped genome. Researchers utilize Drosophila to study genetic inheritance, gene function, and various biological processes, often to gain insights that can be applied to understanding human biology and disease.

Our products include

  • Drosophila Vials: Genesee Scientific offers Drosophila vials in premium-grade polystyrene, polypropylene, or K-Resin, available in tray or bulk packs. Tray packs are ideal for quick filling with their 10 x 10 row configuration, while bulk packs provide easy handling and compact storage.
  • Polystyrene Vials: These vials provide crystal-clear visibility and are a cost-effective alternative to glass, although they are not suitable for autoclave sterilization.
  • Polypropylene Vials: Known for their durability and clarity, these vials are autoclavable (121°C, 15psi for 15 minutes), offering a reliable, cost-effective option for maintaining sterility in the lab.
  • K-Resin Vials: Combining glass-like clarity with scratch resistance, K-Resin vials are durable and secure but cannot be autoclaved. For a similar strength and clarity with autoclaving capability, consider polypropylene vials.

Flugs Closures for Vials and Bottles

Flugs closures are high-performance, dense weave cellulose acetate plugs designed for Drosophila vials and bottles. They offer superior mite protection compared to cotton, rayon, paper lids, and foam plugs, with minimal shedding and reduced evaporation to keep food fresher longer. To optimize shipping and reduce freight costs, we recommend ordering Flugs in multiples of master case quantities, which are designed to accommodate multiple cases for efficient handling and protection during transit
